Mark comes from a well known racing family. His grandfather Fred rode the 1938 Melbourne Cup winner, Catalogue and his great uncle Jim had champion jockeys George Moore and Neville Sellwood apprenticed to him.

Mark commenced calling at Inverell at age 16, while still at school and was believed to be the youngest employed caller in Australia.

After a stint at 2GB calling provincial races, he worked for ‘legal eagle’ Bob Charley providing comments for the barrier trial publication “The Midweeker”. Later he worked for one of Australia’s biggest bookmakers, Mark Read for several years.

Mark has raced and bred many horses with the best being Show Of Force, who was multiple group placed and was narrowly beaten by Octagonal in the group one Sires Produce Stakes.

Mark began calling the barrier trials in Sydney over 20 years ago and continues to do so to this day and highlights his trial
horses to follow on ‘Trials In Focus’.

He commenced calling duties for TVN at the inception of the station over 6 years ago and also appears on Racing Review.
